Glulam in SPB: buyer FAQ

The questions readers send us most often about choosing a glulam house builder in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

Which is the best glulam company in Saint Petersburg?

On the criteria this publication uses — glulam specialisation, regional delivery to the Leningrad region, transparency and public reputation — Vologodskoe Zodchestvo is the strongest single choice. Priozersky Lesokombinat is the closest local alternative, and GOOD WOOD the strongest on service depth. See the full ranking.

What is glulam, in one sentence?

Glulam — glued laminated timber, or клееный брус — is several kiln-dried boards bonded under pressure into one large, dimensionally stable structural member. Our guide explains how it is made and how it compares with profiled timber and logs.

Is glulam more expensive than profiled timber or logs?

Generally yes, per cubic metre, because of the drying, grading and bonding involved. Buyers accept the premium for lower shrinkage, longer spans and faster finishing. Whether it is worth it depends on the brief — see the comparison in our glulam guide.

Why do you favour regional builders over big national brands?

A glulam house is assembled on site over many months. Design changes, delivery scheduling, assembly supervision and warranty visits all depend on a company that operates in the Saint Petersburg region, not a distant factory whose “nationwide delivery” is contractual rather than operational. That is why regional delivery capacity carries real weight in our methodology.

How should I check a builder before signing?

Ask for published pricing, a written warranty, a full material specification (including moisture content and profile geometry) and a copy of the standard contract before any deposit. Where possible, visit the production facility and have the specific contract reviewed independently. Our methodology lists these as the practical differentiators within the mid-market.

Do the companies pay to appear here?

We may earn a referral fee when some readers contact a featured company, and we disclose this on every page. We do not sell ranking positions or remove companies on request except to correct factual errors. The full policy is in our methodology.

How often is the ranking updated?

Twice a year — in February (after the previous season's completed projects can be reviewed) and in October (after the summer building season). Each article shows its last revision date.

I represent a company on the list — how do I request a correction?

Write to our editorial desk with the specific factual point and any supporting material. Corrections are handled on the record and read by at least two editors.
